My new book "The Saga of Me - Divine Justice" brings together five stories of the same protagonist, a man who fights against both the forces of Hell and the forces of Heaven.

"Heaven, Purgatory and Hell, the three realms of the afterlife. Agents from each side try to manipulate Man, making it do things it wouldn't normally do, to influence its final destination. All to get more souls and gain an advantage in the Eternal War.
I can't accept it. It isn't fair for the place of eternal rest (or torment) of a person to be determined by what a third party led it to do. And I fight to prevent it.
Here, I tell the stories of some of my battles in the constant war to impose divine justice in this world, where the deities themselves are corrupt."

The Castle of Father Malavado

The Castle of Father Malavado, a central element of my story "The Castle" included in the collection "Dark Fantasies and Other Stories", sometimes also known as the Castle of Perre, in the parish of Perre, in the Viana do Castelo district of Portugal. Built in the beginning of last century by a priest who was teaching at a nearby school, it was very quickly baptized of Castle by the locals. Personally, I think it looks more like a mesoamerican building than an European monument.

Partially destroyed by the construction of the highway A28, it's now reduced to a fraction of what it was before. Here are some current photos and the promise that when I find some older ones, I will also put them here.

Here it is also a picture of the Largo de São João Chapel, which is also in my story " The Castle" .

Sasabonsam – During the War of Guinea, a group of Guinean guerrilla fighters bring down a Portuguese airplane. When investigating the wreck, they discover not only that the pilot survived, but also that he isn't human. Intellectual, one of the guerrilla fighters, is forced to face the monster, as well as the tribalism that infects the minds of his comrades.

The Castle – Thomas gets a last minute invitation from his cousin Michael to Christmas dinner. But Michael's motives are darker than Thomas could have ever imagined.

Susan – After a short and awful life, Susan faces death. Recalling her days on earth, she tries to deduce to which of the postmortem kingdoms she will be sent. However, her final destination reveals itself as surprising in more than one way.

A Literary Quest – In his search for rare books, Cirio finds the elusive bookstore of Mormont, the location of which changes constantly, but is said to contain some volumes almost impossible to find. However, even after everything he went through to get there, will Cirio's quest be completed?"

New review of my short story "The Last"

There is a new review on Smashwords about my short story "The Last".

"Let me start by saying I hate fantasy. I know it is extremely popular, but I hate it nonetheless. And I am not particularly fond of short stories, either. In spite of all that, I enjoyed Joel Puga's mini profile of Ekkhard, a vampire facing his end. Particularly interesting was how he characterized the discontent Ekkhard feels after centuries of life - searching after (meaning? happiness? a reason for existence?) - whatever vampires seek after. I liked the idea of his participating in every major war - and still not finding satisfaction. Yet at the end he was determined to fight on - although I'm not sure why.

Puga managed to pack a lot of thoughts and concepts in a very short story. Well done - in spite of my preferences. I will look for more of his work. DonB" in Smashwords
